(World Coffee Day Edition)
Our coffee quest officially kicks off at UpsideDown Eatery — a spot that’s quickly becoming a favourite for Pretoria’s remote workers and coffee lovers alike. Situated in Centurion, just past Centurion Lifestyle Centre, on Lenchen Avenue. Here’s how it scored across our categories:
1. Coffee Quality (4.5 shots)

The coffee at UpsideDown Eatery is a delight. Rich, smooth, and brewed to perfection, with a frothy crown that feels like it belongs on a magazine cover. Served in beautiful ceramics at just the right temperature, this is the kind of cup that makes you pause for a moment of gratitude.
2. Food options (4.0 shots)

The menu may not be the biggest in town, but what it offers is thoughtful and diverse. From classic bakes to a pulled-pork fry-up, there’s something to keep most people happy. The Eggs Benedict impressed with properly poached eggs and a hollandaise that felt authentic (a rarity worth celebrating). Add a tempting counter of baked treats, and you’ve got a solid food partner to your coffee.
3. Workspace friendliness (5.0 shots)

This is where UpsideDown Eatery really shines. The space is airy and light-filled, with plenty of plug points (tip: pack a two-prong adapter). Seating is comfortable, ranging from café chairs to lounge and wicker options outdoors. The music is calm enough not to drown out a conversation or call. Bonus points for the small sweet treat with our coffee, attentive staff, and the self-serve water station (lemon optional).
It’s clearly a popular spot for meetings and laptop sessions — so if you’re looking for an energy-boosting work atmosphere, this is it.
4. Wi-Fi Quality (3.5 shots)

Public Wi-Fi is available and easy to connect to, with the password displayed on table posters. Speeds were generally reliable, but we did notice the odd session expiring, requiring a quick reconnect — not ideal if you’re mid-Zoom. Good for browsing and emails, but keep a backup hotspot handy if you’re in back-to-back calls.
5. Value for Money (4.0 shots)

Two cappuccino rounds, sparkling water, Eggs Benedict, and a pulled pork fry-up all came in at a fair price point. A coffee and a meal, will be around a R150. Considering the quality of the food, the well-prepared coffee, and the work-friendly environment, it feels like good value for money — especially for those who might make this a regular work base.
6. Parking & Accessibility (3.0 shots)

Secure, gated parking is a plus. However, the entrance is currently stair-only, which means accessibility could be an issue for those with mobility challenges. Something worth noting if you’re recommending it to a diverse group.
7. Verdict (4.0 shots)

Overall, UpsideDown Eatery is a gem for anyone looking to escape the home office grind. With quality coffee, solid food, friendly service, and a workspace designed with remote workers in mind, it’s no surprise that it’s already popular with Pretoria’s laptop crowd.
On this World Coffee Day, we can safely say: UpsideDown Eatery is well worth a visit — and for many, it might just become the go-to work-and-coffee destination. Oh and don't forget to check out some of the stores in Inside Out (the larger complex where UpsideDown Eatery is situated).
This will be the first of many more reviews exploring Pretoria coffee shops.
